A Letter from the Rast Family

Hello, Brad and Howdy to all the other great people we met during our stay in Boerne!

When you called me Saturday morning I had no idea what was coming, all I knew was that I wasn't going to be late so we had left early. When I told you that we could be there slightly earlier you made it clear that you would prefer 10am. Obviously, I did not want to anger our host and respect your request.

Oh let me tell you what a difference that made!!!

To walk into the lobby of the beautiful hotel and be greeted by all these smiling and cheering strangers is a moment I will never forget in my life. Not only was it a beautiful moment for myself and my wife Marisa but also for our three little ones. They have learned to understand early in their lives that our job is sometimes a little bit different.  "Don't let the bad guy scratch you again", "Why are you not doing a mommy job?" or "Are you working again tonight?" are only a few examples of what we have had them ask before. For them to learn why everyone was there, was great.

It was really hard to hold my tears back, but I had those enough in the last couple of weeks. This show of love and support was the biggest act of kindness we have ever experienced.

All of you are blessed to live and pray in such a special community and although we don't live there I feel like we are part of it.

Hotel staff, store employees, people in town... everyone we met was friendly and welcoming!  We had a great time and can't wait to come back.

We checked into our rooms (very nice Hotel and great people working there!) and afterwards drove into town. We started our tour at the Old Kendall County Jail Museum. Our very passionate host was great and paid special attention to our children to make sure they took something away from this short trip back in time/history.

Afterward, we had a frozen cocktail from Roc-N-Ritas (one that sneaks up on you) and not only was the guy making our drinks really cool, he also gave our kids popsicles, which is easily enough to win their hearts! I could have spent half my retirement on guns and stuff at Black Rifle Coffee and Montechema Firearms and maybe someday I will....

We attended the family event that was at Main Plaza Park and then got more sweets at Salty&Sweet.

Everyone was ready for a break so it was time for drinks at the pool. The kids had their first pool day of the year and I was crazy enough to jump into the water as well, but I didn't last as long as they did. Texas Gourmet Pantry was our type of store and we loaded up on stuff that we will enjoy long after the weekend is over. We finished our evening with a fantastic dinner at Peggy's ( I'll have to go back!) and walked around at the block party on E San Antonio Ave.

After we checked out the next morning we had delicious breakfast tacos at Marys Tacos and let the kiddos run wild at the Kinderpark.

We walked around The Dienger and had their cake across the street at the park while the kids ran around the little pond. We finished the eating spree with some sandwiches at Blacksmith Grill (blackened chicken was my favorite) before driving to Cave Without A Name for a very informative and well-guided tour.

The selfless support and love every one of you showed that day will never be forgotten and every one of you will have a special place in our hearts! If our circumstances change we will definitely consider moving to your area. Either way we plan on being back frequently and would love to get to know more of you and Boerne.

All of you can be very proud for making a difference!

As designed,we used our very generous gift card at every stop we made in town and at the Cave Without A Name. The kids had more sweets than they usually have in a month and I got to order the steak that under normal circumstances I would not have! We had a blast and the time went by way too quickly. We will be back very soon.

God bless you and we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers

With great admiration,

Rolan and Marisa Rast with Ethan, Adrienne, Keirra
